A superb weekend. Friday night, I ran between 4 and 5 miles after work and then wore my lovely velvet jacket out with the Steven to his boss' party. We stayed for a bit, each had a drink, clapped and shimmied and gossiped about the clientele, and then we decided that it was time to leave. We had port, cappucino, and tartufo at Caffe Luna. <3
Slept in on Saturday, and then I busted out the Belgian waffle iron I received as a birthday present from my parents many years ago and made lunch for Steven before he had to go to Carmen rehearsal. It was kind of an experiment - I didn't use quite enough batter for each waffle and their edges weren't quite square, but I think they tasted just fine, considering how many he ate. I made the mistake of leaving the leftover ones out on the counter for a couple of minutes and discovered two nosy kitties chowing down. They were soggy with kitty-spit and I had to throw them away.
Did routine things for the rest of the day - coffee, laundry, tire rotation, decadent napping, and then I headed over to Steven's, where we proceeded to have dinner and drink too much. We were completely silly and falling all over each other, laughing like maniacs (or I was, at least) and making sinfully horrible puns. I don't think Link appreciated our drunk "driving" - we killed him several times before calling it a night, and I ate three chocolate chip cookies and felt really sick, and then I was worthless (if I hadn't already reached that state) and collapsed in bed. Ah well.
Yesterday, went home early when Steven left to conduct, and I slept and slept until about noon. Then, I got busy. I totally upended the entire apartment, cleaning all surfaces and nooks and crannies. None were spared, all germs died horrible deaths, all dust bunnies were ruthlessly discorporated! What can I say, I'm a machine. It was marvelously gorgeous outside - all blue and burnished gold and green, with wind and clouds. I had every window thrown wide, of course, and the cats lounged in the sunny spots. It was thoroughly fabulous. Piano was played, books were read, coffee was enjoyed, lunches were procured, and then Steven and I went out for sushi at our favorite haunt after he got out of rehearsal, which went all afternoon, again. God, this weekend just rocked! I had udon for the first time in awhile, and thought fondly of Japan. After sushi, we went to my parents' to pick something up, where we found them eager for visitors and in the mood to entertain. Conversation, coffee and blueberry cobbler were enjoyed before we departed.
Last night, Steven taught Jesper how to use the scratching post! Jesper has always jumped at the doorframes to sharpen his claws, whereas Kiska knew what that scratching post was meant for as soon as I brought it into the apartment. So, whenever he caught Jesper jumping at the walls, Steven would carry him over to the scratching post, put his paws on it, and then mime a scratching motion. For awhile, Jesper would stay there with his arms hugging the scratching post, but he'd chew on it instead. I despaired, but Steven persevered. He caught Jessy doing his little scratchy thing on the doorframe and carried him over - and it was like a bolt of lighting struck Jesper. He latched on like a drowning man... er, kitty... and passionately ripped and tore at it for quite awhile. It was like crack. He did it again this morning, and I'm hoping that I no longer have to worry about claw marks all over my walls.
