Wednesday Newsflash

Yep. ::performs internal self-check:: I am officially the sorest I've ever been in my life. Little muscles in my hands and wrists are sore, and the muscles in my upper arms, shoulders and upper back are by far the worst. Every muscle stretching from my spine, across my stomach, and back around is aching. I have wounds in my palms where my fingernails gouged holes in them. It's excellent!

Not only did I get thoroughly trounced at practice once again (and made two grave errors, thus earning a total of 40 pushups as punishment), but I spent time talking to (and training with) several interesting people! I also met Sifu Ken, one of the most high-energy people I have ever encountered; it's kind of alarming, really. He's one of those rare individuals with endurance and pain tolerance in such excessive quantities that I believe he could destroy himself completely by accident. I find myself looking forward to Thursday, but it's hard to be so on for 2.5 hours after waking up at 6 AM and working for 8 hours.

I have no idea what I got myself into when I signed up for Core Intro on Sunday afternoons at the dojo. Apparently people regularly puke and pass out, and it's not even Core (Monday nights) or Advanced Core (Thursday after practice). Endurance cardio is a piece of cake for me - it's stuff like suicides, mountain climbers and plyometric exercises that kick my ass... And Core Intro is 2 hours of it, directed by the indefatigable Sifu Ken. I have to admit that my apprehensiveness increased slightly when I received my first Core mailing list e-mail ("Now that we have two new victims...").

Since the opera that he'd been planning on auditioning for has been moved to fall of 2009, Steven is pondering whether or not to audition for the lead tenor role in The Durham Savoyards' production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers for this spring. This makes me so very very very happy. :D He's a shoo-in for the role, but it depends on his schedule because it would involve months of 3-hour rehearsals as many as 4 times weekly. I can't get my hopes up, and I'd definitely miss him... But, if you recall, I met him completely by accident one night after he starred in Yeomen of the Guard.

In other news, C, my fiery and talented workout buddy and good friend, is moving several hundred miles north this weekend to pursue her career. I will miss her sorely. Love and luck to her. <3
