Ugh.

I hate pop culture. It reminds me of the appalling deeds ordinary people perform in the spirit of lust, of greed, anger, spite... Volatile fuel for vice.

I find myself fascinated and disturbed by phenomena like Postsecret, and most recently SecretTweet.com. We're all scum. Loving, happy people cheat on their pregnant wives in moments of ghastly weakness. Parents willingly drink and drug themselves into oblivion, admitting that they know how much their children suffer because of it, and claim not to care. People lusting and hating and harming on every page. People marching by the minute into this online confessional, hoping to shock, to reveal, to connect...? Is it all just a horrendous joke?

PostSecret is a bastion of moral and intellectual fortitude compared to Yahoo Answers. "Weeping for humanity" doesn't begin to cover it.
