Random Ramblings

Yesterday I went out for sushi with Batman and The Astrophysicist (henceforth shortened to AP) for lunch. Sounds like a pair of superheroes; the first one is a lawyer, the second one is an... Astrophysicist. With our powers combined, we could easily conquer the world, but we set our ambitions aside for an afternoon and conquered some spicy tuna rolls instead.

It was like old times; I zoomed down from my "office" when Batman called, and since he and AP were in the 'Vette, there was no room for me except... On AP's lap. Heh. She's a nationally competitive distance runner, very tall and slim, so we could (with some maneuvering) sit more-or-less side-by-side in the passenger seat. Ahhh, I had so much fun. We stayed out for two hours.

In other news, I'm weight training again, for the first time in about three months, and I'm doing something completely different. I'll do cardio intervals three times per week for no longer than 30 minutes (if I'm enterprising - intervals are HARD), at a time ratio of 1:2 (intense work period : light work period). And I'll weight train three times per week, but I won't alternate lower body and upper body; instead every workout will cover all major muscle groups, with a period of 48 hours of rest between weight workouts. I'm so stoked. If I can keep this up (and eat enough), I'll see some serious results in 12 weeks.

Today:

  • Cardio intervals (20 minutes)
  • Squats on Smith machine (3 sets of 12): Entire lower body; I achieved form failure.
  • Pushups (3 sets of 12, 30 degree incline): Arms, chest; I achieved form failure.
  • Underhand lat pulls (3 sets of 12, 50 lbs.): Latissimus dorsi, shoulders; need more weight.
  • Prone jackknives on Swiss ball (3 sets of 15): Abs, arms, chest; need more reps.
  • Step-ups (3 sets of 15, 20 lbs. extra): Quads; need more weight.
I'm so tempted to do cardio this weekend, but my trainer told me to take it easy after such a hard workout. Pushups are so much harder than they used to be three months ago, it was almost alarming. I used to be able to do 30 rollout pushups with my feet on a Swiss ball when I was taking Kung Fu.

S and I will attempt the Poulenc together this weekend! ::fear fear fear:: I played it for 2 hours straight last night. Bring it on.

Also got the news that the special weekly team summer Latin lessons that A was organizing are on Tuesday night. Piano night. ::headdesk::
