Weekend Adventures

Only four more days until the wedding of Natty & Pepper. I can't wait!

Thursday:

S and I went to J. Betski's on Thursday night; their gourmet sausage can only be described as "meat candy." If you're ever in Raleigh and have a few bucks to spare (it's not exactly cheap), stop at this Polish/German fusion restaurant. Unfortunately, I wasn't in the best of moods that evening. In fact, I was, oxymoronically, thunderously morose. :\

Friday:

Friday was much better - I'd gotten Danny Byrd's album Supersized in the mail the day before, but I hadn't gotten around to listening through it. I woke at 5:20, had my morning cup of coffee, got in the car to go to the gym, and From Bath, with Love was the first song that came up on shuffle. ::sigh:: One of the best liquid albums I've heard in a long time. I read some reviews of the album, and anybody who claims that it's "just like everything else in dnb" is either confused, ignorant, jealous, or not a true connoisseur of the genre. Weird Science, anybody? I also took an hour of vacation and left work at 3:30, which was undeniably badass, like the nap I took when I arrived home.

Friday night, I had a date with Chopin's Op. 69 No. 1. Oh, and if anybody is curious about the song that S and I will be performing on June 20th, here it is, with soprano rather than tenor voice. I am so accustomed to hearing S's voice that the soprano makes it sound like a completely different song. Poulenc is desperately ruthless to the pianist. It may sound all sedate and lovely and atmospheric, but it's just an act.

Saturday:

Saturday was an early morning with much lazing around, followed by an expensive shopping expedition. Our primary goal was to acquire an outfit for S to wear to N & P's rehearsal dinner this Friday evening, but I, of course, easily found other ways to spend money. We returned home, snoozed a bit, and then headed over to T's house for her going-away party. Her husband finished his J.D., and they'll be moving up to the frozen northlands of Minnesota. Drinking games and silliness abounded. Three crazy dogs wreaked havoc and mayhem. I had too much to drink and probably said some idiotic stuff. S had about twice as much alcohol as I... And got sick. I felt so sorry for him. No dinner + three massive gin & tonics = no good!

We got lost for about half an hour after the party, and when S told me to take over driving about two feet from his place, I thought he was either crazy (since I was still significantly soused), or having an asthma attack. Nope. :\ Nothing sobers me up like a good dose of empathy. After an hour or so of misery, he felt better enough to go to sleep, and was completely fine in the morning.

Sunday:

S had to conduct his choir in the morning, so I went back to my place, had some coffee and breakfast, practiced a bit, cleaned a bit, and napped after the misadventures of the prior evening.

We got back together in the evening and made our way to my parents' house, where my mother, sister and I experimented with his hair. His thick mane of chocolatey curls is completely unruly, and we, armed with several products, sought a reliable method for taming the beast before the wedding. He put up with it and we definitely had fun. You can see in the picture that I'm hard at work, and he is... Tolerant.

Monday:

Slept in, mmmm. Then, more shopping, and a cookout at S's parents' place in honor of his mother's birthday! We played Cranium with his parents and brother, and had barbecued chicken, grilled veggies and a decadent chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting from Whole Foods. Then he, his bro and I wandered over to Blockbuster to rent a trashy sci-fi horror movie - Event Horizon. I was entertained, but his mother... Was terrified. :D
