So. I have, through sheer force of luck (somebody cancelled), managed to snag a consultation appointment with one of the more awesome tattoo artists in the area, this Friday. I have five days to consolidate my research and come up with a strategic plan for this idea I've been formulating... I've printed out examples and inspirations. I've looked at the work of multiple artists. All I need to figure out now is how to make this balanced and graceful. Excitement!
Also exciting is S and I's upcoming joint lesson with L and master class this Sunday at 3 PM. I do so enjoy showing off, and now that we've gotten past the hurdle of singing/playing together (it was really only my hurdle), I am ready to get on with it.
This weekend was a blur of weird and fun events.
Friday night saw S and I and his college friend R (and entourage) at a large sports bar in Durham for karaoke night. I learned a lesson that evening and will sum it up with the following resolution: I will never again pretend to be an extrovert. It's stressful, it's not real, and it doesn't bring me the types of people I need to connect with. I also learned that S can sing damn well non-classically. For his karaoke debut at this particular bar, he chose Tenacious D's Tribute, and it was hilarious. The gaggle of high school girls in the corner seemed to like it too. ;) R's group, containing about 7 or so music majors - many of them voice majors - took karaoke night by storm. What? Karaoke singers that can actually sing?
Saturday morning/afternoon was pretty lazy. We ran through the Poulenc a few more times (with less drama, which was a relief), he did some work on a DnD campaign he's running, we had breakfast and lunch, went shopping, etc. He was off to DM for the evening at 4, and I finally got ready for the day and went to visit my parents. I convinced them to go see Up, which we did, and had a late dinner afterwards at Panera. As I get older, I have more and more fun with my parents. I sympathize with them, I am more of an equal among them, they are interested in my tales and sympathetic to my plights. As I get older, they become increasingly willing to share their own trials and tribulations with me and disclose their worries and concerns.
Am I becoming more of an adult, or am I realizing that adults are more childish than I thought? In any event, I like it.
I didn't expect S that night, but he came over around 1 AM, and left early in the morning to conduct his choir. We met up at the Raleigh Grand at about 1 PM, along with his dad and N, to see Drag Me to Hell. We were about 40 minutes into what was shaping up to be a pretty awesome movie, when the screen went dark and the emergency lights came on; the theater had lost power. S immediately whispered loudly, "We're all doomed," eliciting laughter from the other movie-goers. When his dad went down to find out what was the matter, he said, "No! Don't split up!" And another person shouted, "Horror Movies 101: Never Split Up the Party!" We were all slightly creepified, despite our humor. The cause of the outage was never determined, so we were given free passes and were told to leave.
Then! S and I made turtle brownies and had quite an entertaining afternoon. ;) We brought said brownies to my parents' place for my dad's birthday. Lovely was there, and we all went out for Mexican and had a grand time. Brownies and Snickers ice cream bars were enjoyed by all, and then we went on an evening stroll, chatting the whole way. S and I left around 9:30 PM to go see Rooney's band, Old Avenue, which was playing at Deep South downtown. They were really good, really tight. I think they have some real talent.
I received Batman's J.D. graduation party; it went through the mail system addressed to Princess *my name here*. That's awesome. :D Unfortunately, the party is on the same night as S and I's performance. ::facepalm::

Which artist/where are you consulting? I'm in the shopping & plotting phase right now too ;)
OOH OOH OOH! Christy over at Blue Flame! I refuse to go anywhere else. I worked with Neal the first time, but Christy's portfolio has more of what I'm looking for in it. :D :D :D

What's the use of growing up if you can't act like a child! :-)
