My darling, there is dancing outside the collegiate scene- plenty of studios around the area if you want to learn, and plenty of non-college comps (albeit much more expensive and with lots of old ladies). You could even try a non-ballroom dance - great west coast, lindy, salsa to be found as well - that also have competitions.
As for me, I hate looking at the pics b/c everyone looks so much better than I do and progressing much faster. But I can't help myself.
