A lozenge has two acute angles, and two obtuse ones.

I'm sick again, with the same sickness I've had the past three times - chills, slight fever, scratchy throat, congestion. Maybe I just don't get enough sleep? I slept about 4 hours last night, but I'm not very tired today at all. I'd wake myself up coughing and then get up, grab a throat lozenge (one of the funnest words in the English language), and dive back into bed (I was freezing cold). Listening to the rain outside (punctuated by the occasional explosion) was soothing and melancholy, and I can be quite joyfully melancholy upon occasion.

I pondered lozenges as I typed that last paragraph - the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary defines them as:

1: a figure with four equal sides and two acute and two obtuse angles : diamond
2: something shaped like a lozenge
3: a small usually sweetened and flavored medicated material that is designed to be held in the mouth for slow dissolution; especially : one that contains a demulcent —called also pastille, troche

Which got me thinking about the moment the concept of "acute angles" slammed home in my brain when I was in Miss Cherry's 3rd grade class. She had a little catchphrase she used; "a cute little angle," which I always remember when I think about acute angles. I liked Miss Cherry; looking back, she was probably fresh out of college and 23 years old when she taught me. I went to high school with a lot of people in that class and had crushes on all three redheaded boys in it. Anyways.

So, I'm sick. My hips ache from rumba and whatever cold I've obtained. My poor little kitty is shorn and stitched up like Frankenstein, and currently languishes in the stainless steel box of a veterinary hospital kennel, with only an elderly female miniature schnauzer for company. Very little sleep, wanting soup, and snorking violently without any tissues in sight. And yet, happiness and joy still reside resolutely within my tired and aching brain.

I just had a very compelling urge to play the Original Mario 3, Ninja Gaiden II, and Marble Madness. Did anybody else play Marble Madness? OR OMG! OR Snake, Rattle & Roll?! That was an AWESOME GAME.

Poor little Jesper! How long until he can come home?

He can come home as soon as he eats some solid food, which the vet predicts will be Thursday morning - although it could be this afternoon! I'm calling to see!

After 10 years of children I am totally immune to sickness. I am patient zero. You could throw me in a tank of anthrax and I believe I would come out like the Omega Man.

Hang in there Jesper.

So says Mr. I-just-had-the-flu-a-couple-weeks-ago!!!

My mom is a 3rd grade teacher and NOTHING makes her sick either.

I just had to let you know that your definition of lozenge has saved me a trip to the dictionary tonight! While trying to define all these crazy book words, I have run into the word more times than I can count. They use it to describe "lozenge patterns" printed as decoration on covers and such...

Oh yeah, by the way, that Ryan comment was mine. That's my fake name for the anonymous blog we have for my Public Libraries class... Shhhh don't tell anyone!
