Torture is Fun!

Kung fu last night consisted of extensive calisthenics, a volley of pushups in all hand positions, endless forward/backward rolls and back/side breakfalls. I feel like I actually was in a minor car accident, I feel so jarred from deliberately (or not so much) falling onto my ass. I almost broke my neck a couple times and was frighteningly close to smushing my skull by landing on it with all my body weight + momentum. It hurt. I may be a size 1 or 2, but I'm about 120 lbs. and mostly muscle, which is dense.

A new guy came and couldn't handle it; he had to stop and sit most of the class out to stop from puking. We also did chin-na, and I'm becoming marginally comfortable with forms 1-3; chin-na is a set of techniques used to break an opponent's hold (and break their fingers or wrists, and/or gouge out their eyes, depending upon the level of carnage you're going for). It's especially useful to me as a small woman, so I make sure to pay close attention and practice diligently. I have freakishly flexible arms, wrists and shoulders and my sparring partners have to apply quite a bit of force to get me to contort to the point of tapping out.

Fun times!

I really, really want to get to the Japanese supermarket sometime soon to replenish my stock of shirataki noodles and furikake. Maybe tonight? Over Christmas break, I dug out my bag of all of the little papers and receipts I saved when I was in Japan, and came across K's address written on a currency exchange form. Scraping together all of the kanji skills I could muster, I wrote her a letter. I hope it finds its way to her. I love her and miss her desperately.
