Dream:
It was dark, and I was terrified. Somehow, RH and I found ourselves in a dank machine room in the bottom of a dam; I could hear the relentless water pounding along some faroff surface in the depths. there was a rusted door to the outside at the far end of this deep, cold room, and a rudimentary elevator up to the "surface," whatever that was.
With a feeling of dread, I creaked open the outside door as RH opened the door to the freight elevator and went inside. Out in the darkness, I saw a familiar, hunched shape that struck me with singular dread and horror - I've seen this beast before in another recent dream. It runs on all fours with a sloping, hunched back that comes up as high as my nose. It has weeping, river dolphin eyes and a horribly long and narrow toothed snout, but it strikes me as slightly mammalian. I describe it now and it doesn't sound particularly horrible, but when I saw it in the dream... God, I was absolutely afraid for my very soul. I knew it had the ability to cause some kind of horrible suffering beyond my imagining.
As soon as I opened the door, the beast was waiting in the darkness, and in the back of my mind, I feared that it would be there. It sprang without an instant's hesitation and slammed against a metal lattice screened door-esque thing, an inch from my nose. I screamed at RH to get the damned elevator working and flitted through the elevator door just as the slavering beast crashed through the outer door and stuck its silent, sinister snout through the gap in the elevator door. I threw myself against it with all my might and latched the door, and RH pressed Up. We were okay.
We spent much of the dream with a group of others, being hunted by a group of beasts. At the end of the dream, RH and I had clambered up onto a sloping wall while the beasts prowled below, knowing we would tire and fall soon enough into their jaws, where something indescribably awful would happen. But RH and I started to sing - a duet, the North Carolina state song, "The Old North State." Our harmony was dead on, creative, and I rather enjoyed it. When we finished, we looked at each other with deep satisfaction.
The beasts waited.

Hey, this is a Zen Koan, but with different characters.
I'm touched that you found it so.
Sweet! Would totally love to be on that adventure with you. Elevator going up anyone? :)
