Kiska Snow Princess

Ah, so confused.

But a little white princess has won my heart. She's terrified and lonely, but she's quite loved, even if she doesn't know it yet. I hope I can win hers. I named her Kiska, which means "purity" in Russian. The land of snow and ice and princesses, as a friend so aptly put it.

D left me a message on Friday night, informing me that he'd like to accompany me on my kitty adoption escapade, so I told him at around 11 yesterday morning to get his butt in gear. We drove for about 25 minutes to the pet store where the adoption agency holds its weekend "adopt-a-thon," and the moment I walked through the door, I laid eyes on my dainty princess. She is two days older than Jesper (about 1 year old), but only weighs about 6 lbs. She's slender and lovely and terribly shy, with tiny paws, a pink nose, and huge green-gold eyes. She is snow-white. She gets along well with other kitties though, and was curled up with two cagemates. I spent two hours talking with her foster mom before signing the paperwork.

Kiska has spent the last 36 hours hiding, coming out only at night to devour her food, use her litter, and rummage through my recycling bin. Jesper is desperately interested in her and sits beside the stove, chattering at her. He about broke my heart this afternoon, when he smushed his face in the crack behind the stove (where she was hiding), said "meh meh meh meh meh," reached out his little paw and touched hers. She replied with a bell-like mew! She can have as much time as she wants to adjust, but I so want to admire her! I can't wait to win her trust.

And, I knew I was destined to see Speed Racer last night, after passing both a Ferrari and a Maserati on the highway driving to my apartment. After spending the first 30 minutes of the movie wondering what the hell was going on (I hadn't seen the trailer or the original anime), I decided I was thoroughly enjoying it, and had a fantastic time. D and I got out of the movie at around 1:20 AM, with him infected with a fierce desire to drive like a maniac. He managed to curb his impulse... Until Highway to Hell came on. Luckily, we were almost home.

Just now at 3:30 AM I was driving home with Madison asleep in my passenger seat holding onto my hand as if it were a lifesaver. There's this button my steering wheel that lets me order my car with voice commands. Usually it takes longer to say "Temperature seventy-two degrees" or "Radio eighty-eight point one FM" than it is to hit a button, so today was the first time it has come in useful outside of impressing passengers.
