Awesome Sauce

Friday night, I was invited to go see The Hulk, but given that I had a couple minutes' warning and my hair was dripping wet from a shower when I got the invite, I told them to go ahead without me... For I was a mad scientist (cook) in search of reagents (ingredients). Then I spoke with my mom, and we decided to cook together...

Bad idea. I had been in A Mood all week and was particularly volatile, and we had a regressive Middle School Moment™ in which we both argued vehemently over whether or not the dietary cholesterol in egg yolks impacted blood cholesterol levels (apparently, Google is now the All-Knowing Oracle of Truth), culminating in me storming (quietly!) out of the house.

Saturday, D and I went to the flea market, where it was unbearably hot and humid, searching for an unusual object to become a mutual friend's birthday present later in the afternoon. We walked around awhile, and I got increasingly snappy until we decided upon an old snakeskin belt. We figured it would fit our friend, a tall athletic guy of a most blithesome, buoyant demeanor - D tried it on and discovered it had plenty of slack on his 26-ish-or-something-inch waist. So, we went to the birthday party of this friend (tacos, sangria and margaritas - and the belt ended up being slightly small), but D got a migraine and I had to drive him home. I spent the rest of the evening dillydallying, doing laundry, grocery shopping, etc. D woke up late in the evening feeling pretty good, so we amused ourselves poking fun at the pilot episode of the original Hulk television series into the wee hours of the morning.

Oooh! On Sunday, I woke up late and drank a whole pot of coffee! Any day that starts out like that is bound to be interesting. I headed over to RH's awesome apartment, with Tinka (mutual friend, a dancer, working on a PhD in physics) joining us later in the afternoon. We talked and made biscotti (toasted almond vanilla with orange zest) and samoas (shortbread, toasted coconut + caramel, drizzled [or glopped, rather] with dark chocolate) from scratch - for five hours! Much fun was had, and I finally got to meet RH's little orange-striped kitty. I was also introduced to lychees (I must have eaten about 20 of them) and delicious crunchy strips of red pepper nori. I met my parents at one of their favorite haunts and presented my dad with samoas for Father's Day. I watched the Lakers and the Celtics for a little while before attempting sleep... Attempting, mind you. Didn't work too well. Kitties were romping unrestrainedly and I have a feeling that the new neighbors below me were none too impressed. Having two kitties is fun; it's kind of like living with your boyfriend. You never feel alone, and there are always hijinks-in-progress that you can either take part in or disparage, depending on your mood. I guess that's as far as the analogy goes if I'm going to play nice.

In other news, I may have a Dance Partner, a good one of perfectly-suited height and agreeable nature, in the near future. We'll see.
