When a pile of Swiss chocolate is lying intact in a particular location, I know exactly where it is and I'm able to steel my resolve as needed to resist the temptation. However, when I'm surprised by chocolate where and when I'm not expecting it, my instincts kick in and I NOM. The nom instinct is irresistible.
So, when Steven somehow woke up in the middle of the night on Friday to hide multitudes of Lindt truffles all over my apartment in nooks, crannies, coffee cups, cupboards and drawers... It's not my fault! I find them, they attack me, and I have to defend myself! My only weapons are my teeth. The black ones (60% cacao) are THE best. The milk chocolate peanut butter filled are also tasty, if lowbrow. All night on Friday, he was afraid that nosy kitties would find the less-hidden ones first and get into them! A chocolate wonderland, and a simple creamy beveled card with his haiku written upon it were my material Valentine's Day gifts. ;D
On Saturday night, we went to see the NCMC Chamber Choir sing a cappella and accompanied Irish love songs, and arrangements of Beatles love songs that ranged from completely gorgeous to awkwardly entertaining. Danny Boy never fails to bring tears to my eyes, they did a beautiful job. They sang Can't Buy Me Love in the style of a traditional English madrigal! Their arrangement of Michelle (one of my very favorite Beatles songs) was So. Lovely. The arrangement took the song's simple chords and rhythms and fractalized them out into directions I'd never fathomed before. Music is like a starry sky; you can take it at face value, or you can ponder its depths.
Steven sang in the Chamber Choir for their Christmas show, and there were a lot of people present who wanted to talk to him and ask him what he was working on. It looks like we're going to have a big crowd at Gondoliers! Afterward, we had reservations at my favorite sushi joint and we ate our fill of salmon and tamago nigiri, spicy tuna, spicy crab, and French rolls. It was such a nice Valentine's Day.
